If you like the idea of letting a hulking beast do the dirty work while you stay out of trouble, the Companion Spirit Walker is an easy build to warm to in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients. It doesn't ask for a pile of rare uniques or a perfect stash of Path of Exile 2 Currency before it starts feeling good. You level in a fairly normal way, then the build changes once Mighty Silverfist joins you. From that point on, you're not really the main damage dealer. You're the handler, the support, and sometimes the person running away while your companion smashes the room flat.

How the build feels while leveling
The early campaign is simple. Grab a Crossbow, use Explosive Grenade, and keep moving. It's not fancy, but it works. Packs die quickly, bosses are manageable, and you don't need to stop every few levels to rebuild your character. Acts 1 and 2 are mostly about getting through the story cleanly. Once you reach Act 3 and head into the Jungle Ruins, the real plan starts. You pick up Tame Beast, find Mighty Silverfist, and turn him into the centre of the build. It's a pretty noticeable shift. Suddenly you're positioning more, attacking less, and watching your companion carry fights.

Why Mighty Silverfist matters
Mighty Silverfist is the reason this setup has become so popular. He hits hard, stays alive well, and handles groups better than you might expect from a melee companion. His Totem Slam is the move you'll notice most. It lands with weight, clears clustered enemies, and can chunk tougher targets when scaled properly. You're still playing the game, of course. You'll dodge, reposition, and help keep pressure where it needs to be. But he takes a lot of the panic out of messy fights, which is exactly why newer players tend to enjoy this build.

Ascendancy and gear priorities
Spirit Walker gives the build its backbone, especially through Companion-focused bonuses. Catha's Balance is one of the key picks because it pushes your beast's damage in a very direct way. It's the kind of node you feel once your gear starts lining up. The nice part is that the build doesn't fall apart without expensive items. Rare gear with useful defensive stats and Companion scaling can take you far. Later on, Runemastered Tyranny's Grip becomes a strong upgrade, especially after work at the Verisium Bench. It's not mandatory on day one, but it's a clear target if you want better endgame damage.

Extra companions and endgame comfort
If you want the build to feel busier, Sylvan's Effigy is a fun addition. Bringing in Azmerian Wolves gives you more bodies on the field, more distraction, and a bit more damage while Silverfist keeps doing the heavy lifting. In maps and harder encounters, that extra pressure can make fights feel smoother. The build suits players who don't want to press ten buttons every second but still want strong results. With sensible upgrades, careful positioning, and maybe some cheap Path of Exile 2 Currency spent on practical gear pieces, Companion Spirit Walker can stay reliable well beyond the campaign.
